How Flower Preservation Works

How Flower Preservation Works | Flower Preservation Australia

As a flower-preservation studio based in Everton Park, Brisbane, we believe every customer should understand the preservation process before booking. Knowing what to expect helps you make an informed decision and ensures your expectations reflect the natural characteristics of preserved flowers and handmade artwork.

This information should be read together with our Booking Terms & Conditions, Returns & Refunds Policy, Shipping Your Flowers & Delivery Policy, and other customer policies.

How to Book Your Flower Preservation

Booking your flower preservation with Flower Preservation Australia is simple.

Browse our Gallery and Products pages to choose the pieces that best suit your flowers, personal style, and home. Whether you prefer resin flower preservation, a custom-framed bouquet, or a combination of both, we offer a range of handcrafted options.

When placing your order:

  • select your preferred preservation pieces

  • choose the date and time your flowers will arrive at our studio

  • confirm any available product options; and

  • choose to pay in full or use our deposit payment option.

Under the deposit payment option, a 35% initial booking & preservation fee is paid when you book. This secures your place in our production schedule and covers booking administration, preparation, and the initial drying and preservation process.

The remaining 65% balance covers the design, creation, and finishing of your handcrafted artwork. It is automatically charged to your original payment method 40 days after the booking date. By selecting the deposit option, you authorise this payment.

If you need additional time, contact us before the payment is due to request a pause or another written arrangement. Your flowers will still be dried when received, but we will not begin creating the final artwork or order custom frames, moulds or other materials until the balance is paid in full.

After booking, you will automatically receive a confirmation email containing instructions for delivering your flowers to our Everton Park studio. Please check your spam or junk folder if the email does not appear in your inbox.

If you need to reschedule your booking, contact us as soon as possible. Rescheduling requires at least 30 days’ written notice, is subject to availability, and attracts a $100 rescheduling fee to cover reasonable administration and production-scheduling costs, except where that fee cannot lawfully be charged. Rescheduling may affect the estimated production timeframe.

When your artwork is complete, we will contact you to arrange studio collection or, where available, delivery within Australia.

Voluntary Cooling-Off Period

We offer a voluntary 10-business-day cooling-off period from the booking date.

You may cancel during this period and receive a full refund of the 35% Initial Booking & Preservation Fee, provided your flowers have not been delivered to us.

If your scheduled booking date falls within the cooling-off period, you must give at least 48 hours’ written notice before that date if you wish to cancel.

Once your flowers have been received, drying begins as soon as reasonably possible. The voluntary cooling-off period then ends because the preservation service has commenced. Drying permanently changes the flowers, and they cannot be returned to their original fresh or unpreserved state.

How Long Does Flower Preservation Take?

Every preservation piece is carefully handmade. The process cannot be rushed without risking the quality of the finished artwork.

As a general guide, most orders are completed within approximately four to eight months. Completion times are estimates rather than guaranteed dates and may vary depending on:

  • flower varieties and condition;

  • bouquet size;

  • weather and humidity;

  • individual drying times;

  • artwork size and complexity;

  • resin curing times;

  • availability of custom materials; and

  • our current production schedule.

If payment is late, the order will be placed on hold. If payment remains outstanding for more than three months from the booking date, we cannot guarantee the original production timeframe, and the order may be moved to the next available production period after payment is received.

We accept a limited number of bookings to allow each order the care and attention it requires. Popular wedding dates, particularly during peak wedding season, may fill well in advance, so we recommend booking as soon as your date is confirmed.

The Flower Preservation Process

Every bouquet is unique, so every preservation project follows its own journey.

1. Receiving and assessing your flowers

Once your flowers arrive at our Brisbane studio, we assess their age, condition, and suitability for preservation. Fresh flowers naturally deteriorate over time, so receiving them as soon as practical gives us the best opportunity to preserve them successfully.

If flowers arrive wilted, damaged, mouldy, excessively aged or otherwise unsuitable, we will preserve them as successfully as reasonably possible. We cannot guarantee that damaged or deteriorated flowers will achieve the same result as fresh flowers.

2. Preparing the bouquet

Your bouquet is carefully dismantled by hand. Florist tape, wire and wrapping materials are removed so each bloom can be prepared according to its variety and condition.

3. Drying the flowers

Each flower is individually placed into professional silica drying media. Silica drying helps remove moisture while retaining as much of the flower’s natural shape as reasonably possible.

Drying generally takes approximately three to six weeks, although timing varies according to flower variety, bloom size, condition, and moisture content.

Once fully dried, the flowers are carefully removed, cleaned, inspected, and prepared for design.

4. Designing your artwork

After the balance has been paid in full, the preserved flowers are arranged according to your chosen artwork and our signature artistic style. Depending on your order, this may involve a custom resin mould, a bespoke framed display or a combination of pieces.

Every design is individually handcrafted to complement the flowers. No two bouquets or finished artworks will be identical, and we cannot guarantee an exact match to a previous artwork, photograph, or digital display.

Understanding Natural Changes

Fresh flowers are natural products, and every variety responds differently to drying, preservation, and resin casting.

Although we use professional methods and take reasonable care, no preservation technique can completely stop natural ageing or keep flowers identical to their fresh appearance.

Expected characteristics may include:

  • colours becoming lighter or darker;

  • white flowers becoming cream or ivory;

  • fading, browning, or discolouration;

  • increased transparency in some petals;

  • shrinking, curling or petal movement;

  • changes in texture;

  • natural differences between flower varieties;

  • small bubbles or layer lines in resin; and

  • minor handmade irregularities.

These characteristics are not faults by themselves. They are normal consequences of working with real flowers and creating handmade preservation artwork.

Preserved flowers will not look exactly as they did when fresh, and no exact colour, shape or appearance can be guaranteed.

Premium Materials for Lasting Beauty

Flower Preservation Australia uses carefully selected professional materials for floral-preservation artwork.

Our resin pieces are created using premium casting resin containing UV inhibitors. Our framed bouquets are professionally mounted inside custom-made deep frames. Where offered for the selected product, customers may choose from standard framing glass, UV-resistant glass or premium museum glass.

UV-resistant materials help delay the effects of light exposure but cannot prevent natural ageing or discoloration indefinitely. All preserved flowers, frames, and resin artworks will continue to age over time.

To help protect your artwork:

  • display it indoors and away from direct sunlight

  • avoid excessive heat, humidity, and moisture;

  • do not display it in bathrooms or other damp areas;

  • handle it carefully; and

  • follow the care instructions supplied with your order.

Handmade in Our Signature Style

Every preservation piece is individually handcrafted rather than mass-produced.

From carefully drying each bloom to designing and finishing the final arrangement, every stage requires patience, skill, and attention to detail. No two bouquets are identical, making every finished artwork a personal keepsake.

By booking with Flower Preservation Australia, you acknowledge that you have selected our signature artistic style based on our portfolio, website, and social media. Your artwork will be unique and may vary from examples you have seen previously.

Whether you choose resin flower preservation, a custom-framed wedding bouquet, or a combination of both, our goal is to create a meaningful piece you can display and enjoy for years to come.

Changes of Mind, Problems, and Consumer Rights

Every finished piece is custom-made to your specifications using your flowers. We do not provide returns, exchanges, or refunds merely because you change your mind after production has commenced, dislike an expected natural variation, or decide our signature style no longer suits you.

This does not apply where goods or services fail to meet a consumer guarantee.

If you believe there is a problem with your artwork, contact us as soon as possible with your name, order number, a clear explanation and photographs where relevant. We may need to assess the artwork before determining the appropriate remedy.

Depending on the circumstances and the Australian Consumer Law, a remedy may include repair, replacement, refund, repeat performance, or another appropriate solution.

Our goods and services come with consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing on this page excludes, restricts or modifies any right, guarantee, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How soon should I book?

We recommend booking as soon as your wedding or event date is confirmed. Availability is limited, and popular dates may fill many months in advance.

2. Will my preserved flowers look exactly like my fresh bouquet?

No. Real flowers naturally change during drying and preservation. Variations in colour, size, shape, texture and transparency are normal and expected. We will preserve your flowers as successfully as reasonably possible, but an identical result cannot be guaranteed.

3. How long does flower preservation take?

Most orders are completed within approximately four to eight months. This is an estimate and may vary according to the flowers, artwork, drying and curing requirements, weather, material availability and production schedule.

4. Can every flower variety be preserved?

Many flower varieties can be preserved, but some delicate blooms change more significantly than others. Suitability also depends on the flowers’ age and condition when received. If we identify a significant concern, we will discuss the available options with you.

5. What happens if my flowers arrive in poor condition?

We will preserve them as successfully as reasonably possible. If, after drying, you decide not to proceed because of their condition, we will refund amounts paid above the 35% Initial Booking & Preservation Fee, less any additional reasonable costs already incurred where permitted by law.

6. How should I care for my artwork?

Display it indoors, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, humidity, and moisture. Use a soft, dry cloth for gentle dusting and follow the care instructions supplied with your order.

7. Can my finished artwork be shipped?

Completed artwork may be collected from our studio or, where available, shipped within Australia. Customers must provide complete and accurate delivery details. We recommend transit insurance and signature on delivery.

Return shipping, redelivery charges, and additional delivery costs are the customer’s responsibility unless the costs arise from our failure to meet a consumer guarantee or the law requires otherwise.
